The Campaign Season Begins…

The filing period for the 2012 elections opens on Monday, and the campaign has now begun in earnest.

Today started with a trip to Boiling Spring Lakes to attend their Republican precinct meeting.  After the precinct meeting I traveled to the county GOP headquarters for my campaign kickoff (catered by Bart’s BBQ — an excellent place for lunch!).  The BBQ attracted a crowd of nearly 60 people, in spite of the fact that there are numerous other events going on around the county today.  I am grateful to Brunswick County Clerk of Court Jim MacCallum for serving as master of ceremonies for the event.  All three announced Republican candidates for Congress in the 7th District (Ilario Pantano, David Rouzer and Tim Wilkes) were in attendance, as were State Representative Frank Iler, State Senator Bill Rabon, Boiling Spring Lakes Mayor Richard White, Register of Deeds Brenda Clemmons and Board of Education member John Thompson.

Tonight, I am headed to Southport for the Brunswick County Republican Party’s Doo-Wop dance.

Today’s busy schedule is but a preview of the next few months.  I look forward to visiting every corner of Brunswick County and hearing what’s on the minds of the great people who call our county home.
